Lab Manager and Technician, Wilson Lab
Job Description
The Wilson Lab provides a position with great opportunity for a motivated individual interested in lab management and research at the Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM), Boston University and the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.
Job Summary
The lab manager and technician in the Wilson Lab will be responsible for both lab based techniques and experiments as well as administration support.
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Laboratory Experiments
- Conduct experiments on iPSCs from diseased or healthy donors under the guidance of your lab PI, Andrew Wilson
- Present scientific data or lead mini journal clubs at Wilson lab meetings as part of a scheduled rotation
- Perform tissue culture of iPSCs and their differentiated derivatives, including their characterization by FACS, RT-qPCR, cell counts, microscopy, etc.
- Assist lab members in managing the mouse colony: collecting ear punches, genotyping, and other assorted tasks
- Process and label biological specimens from diseased or healthy donors in coordination with Wilson Lab’s clinical research coordinator
- Assist with training new lab members in cell culture techniques, lentiviral vector cloning, and packaging/titration of lentivirus
- Help conduct routine mycoplasma screening for CReM incubators and cells
- Technical and administrative support for the Wilson lab
- Be available by email or Slack to answer questions from lab members about protocols or cells
- Order supplies and equipment (be aware of the upkeep of supplies)
- Help maintain and organize SOPs on the server, record keeping of Wilson Lab frozen library, as well as logs of plasmids, vectors, reagents, and IPSCs
- Collaboration
- Orchestrate ongoing communication with other lab managers to organize and assign routine lab chores, determine where shared lab supplies & reagents are located and which lab is next to order more materials
- Coordinate sharing of materials with collaborators including the shipping of cells, plasmids, and viral vectors
- Assist in hosting visiting scientists or students as well as interviews for prospective lab members
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in the science field. Lab experience is helpful but not required. A high priority is placed on organizational and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. A 2 year commitment is required.
