Official partner of Cal State East Bay’s Career Empowerment Center, The Sherwin-Williams Group, hosted a unique career development session with on campus students last month. 58 students attended the session on Sept. 3rd that was focused on resume building and insider hiring tips. Three representatives from the company led the workshop, moderated by a CEC staff member. Employees: Consuelo Moran, Shaun Mante, and Kyle Williams shared their own individual career journeys and took questions from the audience related to hiring and resume preparation. Williams, Residential Repaint Sales Representative and CSUEB Alumni, said “I truly enjoyed engaging with the students at CSUEB about how to prepare themselves for interviews and showcase their abilities as job applicants. I hope that something was said to give them a real perspective from a local employer. As an alumni, I’m proud to assist in supporting their future goals and to represent a company that shares the same values. ”
Moran, Talent Acquisition Specialist, believes that resume workshops are important for students who are just starting out their careers.
“The resume workshop was a fantastic experience. The students were highly engaged, asking insightful questions that showed their enthusiasm. I was especially impressed when some of them visited me at the career fair later on with their polished resumes. It’s clear they’re committed to standing out in their job search,” said Moran.
Helpful information that Moran and her team shared included being specific on your resume, avoiding generalizations, including your contact information, and keeping it concise. Mante also added that students should take advantage of all the career development resources available to them while they’re here to help set them up for success after graduation.
The Sherwin-Williams Group will be back on campus on Oct. 22nd from 10:30-11:30am in the Core Building to lead another CEC Career Chat. The topic will be interviewing best practices. You can register for their event in Handshake.
